Instead of letting her musical gifts lay dormant during her stint in jail, incarcerated rapper Da Brat is busy organizing a talent show for her fellow prison inmates.
industryFinest.com previously reported on Da Brat's
three-year prison sentence in connection with an October 2007 incident
when she alleged assaulted a waitress at a nightclub with a bottle.
She is currently behind bars, serving her time at a correctional facility in Alto, Georgia.
Despite her bleak circumstances, however, the tom-boyish rapper is keeping her spirits high by hosting a talent show dubbed Showtime At Alto, a play on the facility's location and the famouse New York talent showcase Showtime At The Apollo.
In addition to her own celebrity swag, Sister 2 Sister magazine is reporting that Brat has also recruited the talents of her friend DJ Nab for music for the show.
It is being said that Brat is also looking to officials to turn the show into an annual event.
Da Brat (born Shawntae Harris) rose to fame in the early 1990s. Her debut album, Funkdafied, sold one million copies, making her the first female rapper to achieve such a feat as a platinum selling artist.
She's been a long-time friend of mega-singer Mariah Carey and is the half sister of actress Lisa Raye of Player's Club fame.
