Soulja Boy explained that he wanted to show better lyricism, but did not want to do it on his album because it may ruin his image and reputation (WTF). Frustrated with how he's seen and criticized, he is now setting off to attempt to legitimize his success. Soulja Boy : "If I wanted to, [I could] go that route and be respected [not for] my success ... respected [for] my music and my lyrics or whatever," he told MTV. Ironically enough, he said he didn't want to do all of that on an album. "That's why I did the mixtape that I did. I did a mixtape called 'Teen of the South' with DJ Scream. And I did that just to step my game up a little bit on that [lyrical] side. But I wasn't really going into no album and just full-fledge trying to switch my swagger and try to get respect from the game." Soulja Boy - Senorita | TEEN OF THE SOUTH MIXTAPE
Why would Soulja Boy not really try to get respect? Soulja Boy : "'Cause why would I show love to the game? The game don't show you love back. So I wasn't gonna do that and come back out and mess up my image and mess up myself. I was going on the strength that I want respect from people who probably don't like me anyway. So I'm gonna stick to what I do and stay being successful and I'll do some mixtapes and some futures, something like that." T-Pain to Release Highly Anticipated 'Thr33 Ringz' in Fall 2008 Hit-Maker's Third Album to Feature Chris Brown, Ludacris, Lil Wayne and Kanye West; New Single, 'Can't Believe It,' Currently #1 Most Added at Urban and Rhythm X-Over Radio
LOS ANGELES, After spending much of 2007 and 2008 on the top of the charts with hits such as "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" and "Bartender" and as a producer and featured artist on tracks such as Flo Rida's "Low" and Chris Brown's "Kiss Kiss," T-Pain announced today that Jive Records will release his third studio album Thr33 Ringz in Fall 2008. With Thr33 Ringz, he is set to show everyone that he is the ring leader and, in true T-Pain fashion, he is bringing a few of his friends along for the ride ... It's evident T-Pain has another hit on his hands with the album's first single, "Can't Believe It," featuring Lil Wayne which is currently the #1 most added song this week at both Urban and Rhythm X-Over radio. A Casanova song, the track is about "getting a girl to ride with you," says T-Pain. "Basically I got a lot of stuff on my album that's not that simple. It's just basically a way to calm things down," he says. Other tracks to be included on the album include: an up-tempo jam that is destined to be the dance floor hit of the year, "Freeze" featuring Chris Brown; a lyrically clever urban anthem "Chopped & Screwed" featuring rapper Ludacris; a personal and controversial declaration to the Music industry "Karaoke" featuring DJ Khaled; and a collaboration with Kanye West called "Therapy." Tallahassee, Florida native, T-Pain burst on scene in 2005 with his debut Rappa Ternt Sanga and the unforgettable singles "I'm Sprung" and "I'm N Luv (Wit A Stripper)," a song that maintains the title of the highest selling ring tone. T-Pain continued his success with his sophomore effort Epiphany in 2007, which spawned the #1 airplay record of the year, "Buy U a Drank" (featuring Yung Joc) and the ubiquitous #1 hit "Bartender." In 2008, T-Pain took home his first Grammy for Best Rap Song (for "Good Life") with Kanye West, which also garnered a BET Award, where he was the most nominated artist of the night. T-Pain (age 23) currently resides in Atlanta with his wife and children. SOURCE Jive Records | | No comments for this item |

Rick Ross goes on this long tirade in an attempt to prove that he is an authentic thug: “When I’m making my music and talking about blow, it’s because I did it,” Rick Ross maintains. “When I say I’m rich off cocaine it’s because I did it. I never tried to hide my past! I put my name inside of all my CDs. My company has my SS #. I could’ve put a company name.” Indirectly addressing accusations that he worked as a corrections officer in 1997, Ross tells a different version of what he was doing at the age of 19. “I was one of the only n***as in the city with a show truck at 19 (years old) on Dayton’s with TVs doing my own independent thing. I done put a lot of losses in this game,” Ross reasons. “I done took losses in the street, losses with the music. I’ve been up and I’ve been down; that’s what makes me who I am.” Last week Freeway Ricky Ross, the incarcerated former LA drug trafficker and man who inspired the rapper’s namesake, accused the Miami MC of stealing his name to create a fake street persona.

Luke Campbell's 'Parental Advisory' on VH1 |

Luke Campbell, former member of 2 Live Crew and patron saint of booty-shaking. Not surprisingly, “Luke’s Parental Advisory,” which premieres tonight on VH1, is just about as edgy and real as the term "booty-shaking" has become. The conceit is standard-self-proclaimed bad boy, whose hard-R-rated lyrics and album covers helped create the music industry's "parental advisory" warnings, now settling into middle age, with two teenagers to raise and a young fiancé named Vanessa to keep him on the straight and narrow. Not that he's selling insurance or anything; Campbell's second career is in the porn industry. Dutifully, the first episode follows him planning his wedding and "auditioning" strippers. How ever will he reconcile the two worlds? He doles out sage advice along the lines of "a boy who dates more than one girl is a player," while "a girl who dates more than one guy is a slut." Or: "Vanessa understands that I'm like a gynecologist; if I don't see [crude term for female genitalia] every day, something's wrong." Oh, that wacky Luke. | | No comments for this item |
