The cover for Rihanna's first single, Russian Roulette,
which features the Barbados-beauty posing only an eye-patch, barb-wire,
and a basque sent some of her fans into shock over its raunchiness. She
addressed the public's response to the photo while talking to Key 103,
a british radio station, and said she doesn't understand what all the
fuss is about.
"I don't know why people are so surprised that I
am scantily clad. I've always been scantily clad. I've always been this
way. I definitely thought the barbed wire was cool, it was a symbol of
strength but fearlessness all at once, and that's why we used it," said
the singer.
While
describing the setup, she said: "We took our time and wrapped that
barbed wire around me. It took forever because we had to wrap it around
the front of me...a few times more than the rest of me so that it would
cover the necessary."
Rihanna recently played her first show in Brixton, London since being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown
in February of this year. She emerged on the stage wearing an eye mask
and a studded leotard and performed a 45 minute set, which included a
surprise appearance from rapper Jay-Z who accompanied her in performing Run This Town and Umbrella.
Rhianna's album, Rated R,
which is due in stores on November 23rd will further broadcast her
newfound tougher, edgier image, and will feature appearances from Young Jeezy, will.i.am, and former Guns N Roses guitarist, Slash.
