A copyright infringement lawsuit against Lil Wayne, Birdman,
Cash Money Records and various distribution outlets was filed on Friday
(October 30) by Thomas Marasciullo in Manhattan Federal Court.
The suit claims that Cash Money used "Italian-styled spoken-word recordings" that Marasciullo created in 2006, on Wayne and Birdman's joint album, Like Father, Like Son, and on 2007's 5* Stunna, without pay or permission.
According to Marascuillo, his copyrighted songs that feature a man's voice delivering Mob-like banter appeared on the Like Father, Like Son album, a total of four times in the form of songs such as Loyalty and Respect and on the 5* Stunna album five times The lawsuit also states that Marascuillo did not realize that his work was being used until his daughter discovered the song, Respect while trying to buy a ringtone version of the hit Aretha Franklin song of the same name.
When
Marascuillo demanded payment for the use of the recordings, his son was
fired from his recording engineer job at Cash Money. Marascuillo is
seeking unspecified damages.
In related news, Wayne
pled guilty earlier last week to attempted weapons possession from a
2007 incident where authorities stopped the rapper's tour bus after a
concert in New York. He faces one year in jail.
