DJ’s J. Period and G. Brown are paying tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. with a new mixtape and an invitation only tribute event tonight (May 21), on what would have been the legendary rapper’s 36th birthday. The DJ’s have assembled the second installment of their critically acclaimed March 9 remix project mixtape series, which is dedicated to Notorious B.I.G., who was gunned down March 9, 1997 in Los Angeles. While the first March 9 installment focused on the darker side of B.I.G.‘s character on March 9 V.2., the DJ’s explore B.I.G.’s high-rolling, player lifestyle. The DJ’s will showcase classics and remixes from the March 9 V.2. mixtape during the evening, which will dedicate a portion of the proceeds to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation. March 9 V.2. is available now. | | No comments for this item |

Sean Bell, his former fiancée Nicole Paultre Bell, and their daughter The Sean Bell shooting incident took place in the New York City borough of Queens which could have led to 25 years in jail, Detectives Marc Cooper, Gescard Isnora and Michael Oliver went home free men April 25, acquitted of all wrongdoing in a court of law. But the three faced internal charges back at work yesterday, according to New York's Daily News. Each man was accused of firing his weapon outside of NYPD departmental guidelines - a serious offense that could result in an ousting from the force. In addition, Isnora was charged with violating NYPD vice protocols by taking action as an undercover. The cops infamously fired 50 bullets, killing Bell and injuring two of his friends on Nov. 25, 2006 right outside a Queens strip club, the Kalua Cabaret, where the guys had been celebrating. The barrage of bullets began after Isnora followed the three men to their car in the parking lot. The officers were doing an undercover sting operation at the business. It's not just the three cops who are taking the bullet. Seven law officials in all have been charged, though earlier reports put the number at eight. Lt. Gary Napoli, the detectives' former commanding officer whom prosecutors have called incompetent, is also under fire. Though not charged in court, he was charged by the NYPD for not preparing an adequate tactical plan before he sent his undercover officers into action. Officer Michael Carey actually shot at Bell but wasn't indicted and was charged by the NYPD with violating departmental rules in discharging a weapon. Two crime scene detectives, Sgt. Huey McNeil and Detective Robin Knapp, were accused of compromising the crime scene. Knapp was hit with failure to process the scene correctly and McNeil with failing to supervise the processing of the scene correctly. Another cop, Paul Headley, also shot at Bell but escaped both criminal and departmental charges. Earlier reports said Headley was charged by the NYPD, but according to his lawyer Bruce Wenger, he was not. The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has been vocal about the verdict - leading a citywide march earlier this week - issued a statement saying, he feels the charges are "a step in right direction," but he wants the officers involved axed without a drawn out internal procedure. Sharpton cited a recent incident in Philadelphia in which there were no fatalities, but four officers were fired and others disciplined for their actions. "I strongly believe that the Police Commissioner should fire the officers in the Sean Bell case pursuant to civil service laws," Sharpton said. For now, Oliver, Isnora and Cooper remain without guns or badges - relegated to modified duty. According to Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, the department is waiting until the feds complete their investigation before moving forward with internal action. | | No comments for this item |

West Coast pioneer Ice Cube will join Michael Eisner on the former Disney chairman’s CNBC talk show tonight (May 19). The rapper, actor, director and film producer born O’Shea Jackson will appear on a new episode of Conversations with Michael Eisner during an episode featuring renowned actress Julie Andrews and Rolling Stones Magazine founder and Publisher Jann Wenner. During his segment of the episode, Cube shares his thoughts on a variety of topics including Oprah Winfrey’s apparent snub of the rapper, even as she celebrated the groundbreaking documentary Black.White, which Ice Cube executive produced for the FX network. The N.W.A. co-founder also explains the thought process behind his current single “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It,” the first song to be released from his forthcoming ninth solo album Raw Footage, which hits stores June 17. “Last year, with Don Imus and the Virginia Tech shooting, and even Michael Vick and the dog fighting, there was this swirl in the media that Gangsta rap is the root of all evil, almost,” Cube tells Eisner. “I started thinking how ironic that is. Gangsta rap was basically invented in 1985, but if you was around in 1984, you know how crazy it was in the world. So how could Gangsta Rap be the cause of all these global problems.” Since the release of N.W.A.’s seminal debut LP Straight Outta Compton in 1988, Ice Cube has established himself as not only a heavyweight in the rap game, but a well respected player in Hollywood as well. His first on-screen turn as “Doughboy” in John Singleton’s 1991 classic Boyz n the Hood has led to appearances in over twenty-five films to date. Ice Cube currently has three films in postproduction including Longshots, the story of the first girl to play in a Pop Warner football tournament. Conversations with Michael Eisner airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. EST. Ice Cube - Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It (Official Video) | | No comments for this item |
