Akon turned over a new leaf and actually attempted to end a fight at a recent Australian concert, but his efforts had the opposite effect and 18 people ended up with undisclosed injuries.

The beastly brawl was reportedly ignited when about 50 people ran down on security to gain entry into the concert.

Apparently convinced that the violence needed to end, Akon jumped from the stage to get the crowd to "calm down."

Instead of simmering the incident into a peaceful situation, the crowd was further excited by Akon's presence.

Footage of the incident can be found on YouTube.

Despite the undesired effects of the performer's actions, his camp is standing by his decision to intervene.

"One of the things people should take note on is an artist didn't have too much concern for his own safety to go down and try and make things better," Akon promoter Dwayne Cross told the Herald Sun.

Eighteen people, including two security guards, were injured. Eight of them were treated at the hospital.

"They were all men aged between 22 and 54.  They were all suffering cuts and bruising, some of them had to be given some pain relief," stated Paul Bently, a spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria.

Akon's performance came after almost "two years" of negotiations with Australian officials, he said during the concert.

T-Pain was also supposed to be on-hand for the concert, but it was unknown if he had made the date.
