hip hop music news The highly anticipated movie starring Jay-Z's girl, better known as Beyonce Knowles, and rapper Mos Def, will hit theatres on December 5th. Called "Cadillac Records," the movie is the story of legendary Chicago record label Chess Records, home to a number of artists include Etta James (played by Beyonce) and Chuck Berry (played by Mos Def). Set in Chicago in the 1950's the movie also details the story of Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Litter Walter and founders of Chess Records, Leonard and Phil Ches.
Besides the two music stars rounding out the cast will be Garielle Union (Bad Boys II, Martin's under cover cop sister), Emmanuelle-Chriqui (Entourage, E's girlfriend Sloan), Eamonn Walker (Lord Of War, Crazy African Leader), Tammy Blanchard (Stealing Harvard, Noreen Plummer) and of course Cedric The Entertainer.
Darnell Martin (known for his television directing on "Law & Order," "Greys Anatomy," "OZ," "ER" etc ) wrote and will direct the film while Beyonce will executive produce. Beyonce will also produce the films soundtrack that features classic Chess Records recordings plus new material from Beyoncé herself, plus Mos Def, Buddy Guy, Raphael Saddiq, Solange, and Q-Tip.
